Hip Hop Cue
I believe my best cue from Portfolio II was my Hip Hop Cue. Hip hop isn’t my forte, however this cue came out better than expected. This bettered my expectations for the future now, so hopefully I will be able to lean into that genre a bit more.
For this project I went back through my notebook for my favorite word progressions, and that is how I got the ball rolling. I was nervous at first that this wouldn’t be my favorite but it just slightly topped my tension cue in my opinion. I feel as though I left this a bit more simplistic because I was scared that I would ruin it if I went further, so I hope in the future I can go back to it and make this a bit more complex.
This was my first time using an 808 bass, and to my surprise I liked it. The melody is my favorite part. I normally do not layer my melodies, but I liked how it made gave it a bit more strength at certain parts. However, I do normally, allow a small section of my pieces to mainly just be the melody so it can truly shine. I tried using sitar strings for the first time and they did add bit more texture to my cue which was a plus on my end, so I hope to use those in the future.
