After Hours
About this track

This track first started as a simple melody that I could not get out of my head. Normally my melodies come from playing the ukulele while I zone out, and I would quickly jot it down somewhere, however, this one stuck in my head more than usual. I can see this 34 bar track being used as background music in a show or movie during a relaxing scene. If not then it can alternatively be left as a lofi song.

As for structure, I left the meter as 4/4 with a tempo of 120. For the beat, I used a more simplistic drum pattern with a kick, snare, and hi-hats. The 3 were made from the autumn leaves electric drum kit, and have reverb applied to them. Along with that, I have 2, 8 bar sections of a sample of the apple audio loop, arcade summer beat 1. that have been EQ’d. There are two layers to the bass. The original bass follows a similar pattern to the kick, while the other is 2, 8 beat notes that are played behind the original bass track. The first bass; thumb stroke bass, has a bass amp that was previously applied, along with a compressor and chorus. The second bass track was made with a synth to slightly mimic a bass-like sound. This piece is in the key of G# major, with the use of the chords G#, C#, B#m, C#maj7, E#m, and A#m Both the chords and melody use gentle sine bells. The chords are in the octave of C3, while the melody ranges between C4 and C5.

As previously mentioned, the second bass is made from a synthesizer, however, there is another synthesizer created. To separate the first and second 16 bar sections of the piece, there are 3 bars with a falling melody that starts on the last bar of the first section to lead into the second. That was made with an ESP synthesizer (just like the bass synth) to create a pad like sound. This track was bussed so a delay could be applied to it, to help make a smooth transition between notes. I did have 2 tracks that were made with my own vocals and plug-ins. I recorded myself originally to have basic background vocals, however, I added multiple plug-ins to adjust it and make it sound like ambient vocal noise. The track uses a compressor, noise gate, a pedalboard, pitch corrector, vocal transformer, and channel eq. I then duplicated the track and raised the pitch up 12 semitones, with a +18 formant. This was to create a hi-low effect between the two tracks, with the original track only has a -18 formant. Both tracks then had reverb added to it.

The track order is kick (tracks 1-2), snare (tracks 3-4), hi hats (tracks 5-6), bass (track 7), bass synth (track 8), pad synth (track 9), chords (track 10), melody (track11), arcade beat sample (track 12) vocals (Low) (track 13), and vocals (high) (track 14).
